This encourages photographers to visualize a peaceful world on a high level—not sunsets or meadows, but rather subjects that inspire hope in this future, from community to refugees to uninhibited joy. The Fried Award seeks to honor visual representation of the beauty and good in our world. As a member of the permanent jury for the Award, it is an honor for me to reward such inspiring images.

The top five photographers will be invited to Austria to receive the Alfred Fried Photography Award Medal. The winner of the Peace Image of the Year will receive €10,000, as well as their image on display at the Austrian Parliament for one year before being added to the permanent collection. There is also an award for child photographers ages 14 and under to submit their images of peace. The grand prize for the Children’s Peace Image of the Year is €1,000.

The Award honors Alfred Fried, a pacifist, author and 1911 recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. The Fried Award recently entered into a cooperation with World Press Photo.

Entries can be submitted until June 2, 2019. For more information and to enter, visit https://www.friedaward.com/.
